Certain by-products of wastewater treatment, known as biosolids, and non-hazardous residuals from wastewater treatment, can be used, under certain circumstances, in limited agricultural applications. <\/SPAN>These uses are governed by<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> Parts III and V of<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> the Guidance and Regulations Governing the Land Treatment of Wastes (7 DE Admin. Code 7103). The biosolids and residuals data shows <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>t<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>he location of areas in Delaware where <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>agricultural utilization <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>permits have been issued to allow for the <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>land <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>application of biosolids and non-hazardous waste residuals<\/SPAN>. <\/SPAN><\/P>

Biosolids<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Sewage sludges that are solid, semisolid, or liquid residues generated during primary, secondary, or advanced treatment of sanitary sewage. Treated sewage sludge that has undergone an approved process to reduce pathogens, <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>a process to <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>reduce the attractiveness of the material to disease <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>carrying <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>vectors (flies, birds, rodents), and that meet<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>s<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> regulatory<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> limits for certain pollutants are known as biosolids. Biosolids are typically used as a fertilizer or soil amendment or are disposed of in a landfill.<\/SPAN><\/P>

EPA regulations (40 CFR Part 503) establish the minimum national standards for the use and disposal of biosolids. EPA\u2019s standards are incorporated into Delaware regulations. The state\u2019s rules include additional requirements and safeguards that are not required in EPA standards.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Non-Hazardous Waste Residuals<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

Non-hazardous residual materials from waste treatment that do not contain a sanitary waste component can be permitted for agricultural use under <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>Part V of the Guidance and Regulations Governing the Land Treatment of Wastes<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>. These waste<\/SPAN><\/SPAN>s<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> must meet regulatory limits for certain pollutants and must be suitable for use as a fertilizer substitute or as a soil amendment.<\/SPAN><\/SPAN><\/P>

This layer includes <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>land application <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>sites where <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>non-hazardous <\/SPAN>waste<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>residuals<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> disposal<\/SPAN><\/SPAN> <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>(were beneficially reused may be a better phrase to describe \u201cdisposal\u201d if this description goes on a public server) <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>via <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>land <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>application <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>have <\/SPAN><\/SPAN>been approved.
