Service Description: The purpose of the data is to identify and describe areas requiring federal consistency review through the Coastal Zone Management Act. Federal consistency gives states a strong voice in federal agency decision-making, which they otherwise would not have, for activities that may affect a state’s coastal uses or resources and is a powerful tool that state programs use to facilitate cooperation and coordination with federal agencies.

Subject: These maps show the boundaries in which the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) Delaware Coastal Management Program (DCMP) has authority through the federal consistency provision of the Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) to review federal activities (agency actions, licenses or permits, financial assistance, and Outer Continental Shelf plans) which have reasonably foreseeable effects on any coastal use (land or water) or natural resource in Delaware's Coastal Management Area for consistency with state enforceable policies. Delaware has defined its Coastal Management Area as the entire state for the purposes of the federally approved coastal management program. In addition to Delaware's Coastal Management Area, the maps depict other areas in which DCMP has been granted authority to review specific actions (alternative energy development, dredging and dredged material disposal, and introduction of non-native shellfish) through federally approved Geographic Location Descriptions and Interstate Consistency (15 CFR Part 930, subpart I).
