In coordination with FEMA’s Future Flood Risk Data (FFRD) program and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Michael Baker International (MBI) generated graduated maps of coastal flood risk in Delaware coastal areas. These non-regulatory maps show flood risk using a gradient color scale, representing present conditions and the DNREC Mid-Century and Late-Century sea-level rise (SLR) projections for all of coastal Delaware. The graduated flood risk maps were developed for 10-, 20-, 50-, 100-, and 500-year return periods. MBI performed spatial extent extrapolation and boundary delineation for return periods higher than 1 percent of the annual exceedance probability (AEP) for the current conditions and for all return periods for two SLR scenarios. Our team estimated wave heights in the extended floodplains using the total water level and still water elevation data and developed depth grids to quantify spatial flood depths for the five return periods of interest. This work was completed in February of 2025. |
